Rymar Edition Lure's

BACK

Here are some spoon combinations and other lures that we have developed throughout the years that we have been salmon fishing. Generally, I try to come up with at least one solid design a year that will consistently put fish in the cooler for that year.
I would also like to thank a fellow salmon angler. Back a few years ago, we were docked in Ludington Municipal Marina. Out of all of the ports that I fish, the people in this one are the most generous with sharing fishing information and even giving lures away. Well we were chatting with this one angler throughout the week that we were there. Well one day, he comes back from one of the local bait stores with a box of tape. A 12" X 12" X 18" box, full of different tapes for $5. He then says that we can go through it and pick out any tapes that look good. So, I grasped about a 1 gallon Ziploc bag worth of tape. I don't remember his name, but I thank him for being so generous.
If you use any of these lures, please let me know if you were successful with them or not. And give credit, where credit is due. These are not your edition lures, they are Rymar Edition. Even if it is bad credit, we don't care - just as long as you don't claim them to be yours.
I also have all of the tapes on board with blank spoons, so if you find me in any harbor or in the boat, I might find the time to make you up some.

Glo Monkey Puke - (2000, Mag SS Blank, Brown Scale Tape, and Brown Sugar Glow Tape) - I was bored one day and wanted to come up with a new spoon, but the problem is I did not come up with a very good one. Back a few years ago, Monkey Puke was a very good color, so I thought about adding some glow tape to one. But it never did produce like the normal one.
Mag Spartan - (1999, Mag SS Blank, Green Scale Tape, and Yellow Scale Tape, and Brown Sugar Glow Tape) - Named after MSU because of the colors. This is an excellent Lake Michigan spoon for Coho. When there were schools of Master Angler Coho's in the area (Ludington 1999 and 2000) this spoon rocks. The thought behind this lure was to combine the SS Green Dolphin and SS Yellowtail Glo.
Imm - (1993?, NK Blank, Various Laser Tapes) - The Green Laser version (top) was created and given to us Dave Imm (Immpulse), one of the regulars that fish Ludington throughout the year. This spoon was taking a lot of fish for him at the time and he shared one of them with us. I was able to track down the blank, which is brass or copper?, but never able to get the correct tape. So, after a while, I decided to put the blank to some use and tried to make a bit of a different Steelhead spoon by adding Pink and Orange Laser tape to it. Both of these spoons still take fish for us today.
Green Glo - (2002, SS Blank, Green Lined Tape, Green Glow Tape, and Glow Ladderback Tape) - This spoon is just a Green Glo spoon, but I modify it by adding some green lined tape and a glow ladderback. I wanted a spoon that looked like a SS Green Dolphin, but have more flash to it. I a used both Mag and Reg sizes of this pattern; the Reg seems to work better.
Orange Laser - (1990?, ET Spoon, Orange Laser Tape) - This used to be an orange ET spoon with a black crackle tape in the center. It never took a fish, so I stripped the black off of it and added a piece of Orange Laser tape to it. When going offshore in search of a surface temp break, this spoon is usually in the water.
Black M&M - (1997, Yeck M&M, Sharpie Marker) - The Yeck M&M used to be a top 3 spoon out of Ludington when we need to target Offshore Steelhead instead of Kings due to BKD. I had one that was really tore up, so I repainted it with a Sharpie marker. This is an Ok Dipsy spoon and is usually used in the river during the spring.
GO Mongoose - (2000, SS Mongoose, Orange Laser Tape) - Mongoose with Orange Laser Taped added to it. I have not fished this spoon hard enough to decide if it is good or not.
P&P J-Plugs - (1999?, Yeck M&M, Purple and Pink Paint) - These are used of fishing the harbor mouths in late August for adult kings. These are painted by Dave Rymar. The first design of the top one was used the day it was painted, hence the white undried stripes. But a big king grabbed it and liked it so much that he decided to break the line and take it with him. So, Dave tried to copy it from memory and also made a reverse design of it.
Custom Divers - Always add tape to your divers.  a label maker is a must too.  The "BITE ME NOW" diver is very well known throughout the BWSA crews.  WE LOST the BITE ME NOW DIVER.  This diver had been with us since before 1994, we have a homemade video tape of us catching a 27lb king on it.  11+ years using the same diver is quite impressive.  We have already made a replacement, but the question will remain if it will be as productive.
Rotten Banana - (2003) Mike Rymar designed this dodger in his head on a long drive up to Harbor Beach.  As soon as he got to the boat, be began work on it.  Take a 8" yellow dodger.  Had an edge of Glo Cracked Ice tape to it.  On the opposite edge, take a black sharpie marker and color in a black edge.  Since we never took any fish on a yellow dodger, it was time to doctor it up a bit.  After the make over, it definitely took more fish.  Mostly lakers, but an occasional king too.  Still not as good as the custom white dodgers, but better than it was.
Spectrum Flies (2004) - On the left, you will see a standard Mirage Fly.  It is a bit more Red.  On the Right, We tied up what is called a spectrum fly.  It is more blue and purple.  We never ran a comparison as to which produced best.  In 2004, we would guess both produced bout the same number of fish, which would be about 10.  Maybe next year we will run them more than we have.
Teasers (2004) - We made these assortment of teasers.  They were made out of 3" banded mylar.  They never produced fish like the store bought teasers.  Next year we will probable cut them down to 2" teasers?
METAL MEAL - Mike Rymar made this one up around 1999.  It is an 8" Dodger, painted high-gloss white.  Then you take a sheet of laser glow tape.  Cut the sheet into 4 rectangles.  Then stick two on each side.  The squid is a 4" laser glow.  The length between squid and dodger is shorter than what you run with rotating flashers and flies.
