Tie Your Own

Trolling Teasers

BACK

The following are the equipment, material, and steps to create your own trolling Teasers to use in 3 teaser cutbait rigs.  There are a few different ways that this can be done.  This is the easiest way that I have found to create your own.  I have not gotten to water test this procedure to see how well our flies will hold up after a few fish though.  Hopefully, they will be able to last for a long time, otherwise I will have to change my procedure.

The equipment that you will need is as follows.

  1. A fly tying vise

  2. A small finishing nail

  3. Scissors

  4. Bait head

  5. 4" banded mylar

  6. Ruler

  7. Super glue

  8. Head cement

  9. Thread

  10. Bobbin

  11. A pen

The first step place the body onto the vise using the nail.

Measure out 3" of banded mylar material.  If you are going to use one color, measure out a 3" strip.  If you are going to use two colors, measure out ~1.5" + ~1.5" for a total of 3" of material.

Dab a spot of super glue to the body.  Set one end of the mylar onto the spot and line it up perpendicular to the nail.  Slowly wrap the mylar around the tube.  Every 2-3 wraps a add a dab of more superglue.

Wrap the thread tightly onto the banded part of the mylar.  Use the pen to tie 5 knots onto the layer of thread.

Next apply the head cement and let dry.
