Fishigan Fishing Team

2007 Updates

Nov 11 -

We got out for about 4 hours this afternoon.  Picked up one nice fish right at the end on a Smallmouth Bass Nil's.  Look at that belly full of shad.

Nov 10 -

We created two new web pages in the Fishing Items section of the website.  They are Line Class Testing and Line Class Records.

We hope to get out tomorrow to chase Muskies.....

Nov 8 - Very Late Fishing Report

9/18 - Sara and Mike went out for some Sturgeon fishing. They anchored above a well known hole and set up lines. Nice night to fish for only being out 2 hours. It was not long before I was able to hook up on this 46" fish.

A law enforcement boat was outside of us for at least 15 minutes in the channel idyling in neutral. Then he checked the boat anchored downstream from us, and then he left.

9/19 -   Out for Sturg again.  We got a couple small rockbass. I believe we lost a Sturgeon while we were setting up lines, as my 10 ft rod bent right over twice before I could get to it; and I know we lost another that pulled our rig right to the surface splashed right behind the transom and threw the hook. We pulled lines at midnight cause our wakeup times for work were approaching.  0 for 2 on Mr. Uglies.

9/21 - After skipping a day, Sara and Mike made plans to go on Hienrich's boat for some sturgeon fishing. But the Hienrich's canceled on them and so they went out on the Fishigan.

Their first fish landed was this 6.60 lbs Master Angler Redhorse (had MDNR biologist Mike Thomas ID it for us).  Then another redhorse would tip the scale at 5.50 lbs.

They re-rigged the rod and finally they got the fish that they had been looking for. A sturgeon bite, and the battle was on. This fish stayed right under the boat for most of the fight. Then it made a run out toward the middle of the channel. I pulled the fish toward the boat and got a good look at it and knew it was a very nice fish. It made another long run downstream, and they were a bit worried for a second as there was another boat anchored up down there and they did not want to have their fish wrap in their anchor line. But the fish stopped after a 100 ft run on the linecounter. After about a 10-15 minute battle, Mike was able to pull the fish into netting range.  In the net it went.  Camera and scale ready we took a few shots of the fish and got a length and girth of 64" x 26".

DNR chart put the fish at 69 lbs.

They would miss one other Sturgeon bite this evening at 11:50pm, as the fish pulled the rig and surfaced right beside the boat. They would pull lines at midnight and head for home.  1 for 2 on this evening.

9/23 Sara and Mike would take out some relatives for some more night Sturgeon. They would have one quality rip as everyone on the boat saw the 10 ft rod bounce over three times and then there was nothing there.  0 for 1.

9/27 Dave and Mike would take out their hunting friend Al who owned a nice chunk of land that they all deer hunt in the U.P. They must have anchored in Rock Bass city was we would go thru 4 cans of 18 nightcrawlers (72 worms) in about 2 hours. Luckly one of the fish they would hit was a Sturgeon. They let Al bring it to the boat. Half way thru the battle, it made an impressive jump right beside us. And for just about all the battle this fish wanted to be right under our transom. It wrapped the line on the outdrive once, wrapped the out drive again this time making a long run a fraying all the line on the rod. The line would hold up and they were able to land this 52" fish.

9/29 and 9/30 Fall Muskie Slam

The crew pulled in this 49.5"x22" Muskie on the 2nd day of the slam.  It was short of the 51" minimum to be entered.

Here is another one the team would catch after tournament hours.  It was 49"x19".

June 5

Way over due for an update.  Again, got the Tournament Page up-to-date to the best of our knowledge.  Standings and stories posted.

Created a new page in the Fishing Items section of the website.  New got our order of Nil's Masters' and the paint jobs are finished up.  These baits are primarily a Fall Muskie bait.

The Fishigan fishing team added a new vessel to the fleet.  Adam Heinrich purchased a Sea Ray 33' Express called Passin' Gas.  Currently we just finished rigging it up for Muskie on Lake St. Clair.  Look for images of it to be added soon to the Our Vessels section of the website.

Our next upcoming event is the Thumb Area Offshore Challenge on June 23 and 24.  See you there.

April 12

Got the Tournament Page up-to-date to the best of our knowledge.

We have heard early reports from last weekend of 1-6 Coho's along with an occasional King or Steelhead being taken in both Lexington and Port Sanilac.  Same reports are coming for the Marine City area.  Kings appeared very health, and ranged from 8-9 pounds.

March 25

Wow how time flies.  Been a while since an update.

Finished up updating the 2006 tournament page and gallery page.  Watch for the 2007 tournament page to get updated in the next few days.
